Owwwwww.
had a session with my trainer today. How can such a devil hide behind such a pleasant exterior? They say that lucifer was the fairest of all angels. I think my trainer is related. He’s not really sadistic, he’s just... inventive.
we started off with rowing for a warmup, only 400 meters, and I’ve learned to treat it as a warmup, not a full effort workout. After that came some stretches, lunges, inchworms, Spider-Man’s, curls, extensions, planks, rows, squats, and I can’t even remember what else. By the time we were done, I was leaving puddles on the bench.
I'm noting a lot of imbalances. For instance, my right hand grip and row is stronger than my left, but my left arm curls and pull-downs are stronger. My left leg step-ups are MUCH stronger than my right, etc. It’s going to take a lot of work to balance it all out, so that’s first order of business, as is mobility/flexibility. It’s going to be a long two years.
Stamina is also something to work on, so I see a lot of cardio in my future. It’s not that sailing requires that much sustained effort. However, it comes in bursts. Still, hoisting a sail is not a 30 second job. Plus, you have to have the stamina to maintain concentration for hours and have the strength time and time again as and when needed.
